Photojournalism Ethics

A photojournalism ethics I think should be absolute because I think that if you change the picture than its not really a picture because its not the truth and the photos are suppose to be taking at a real life moment.
Yes a photo can really capture truth because if you are there and capture it than it would be a real picture and the truth until you edit it and change any information or anything.
I think its important that news organizations keep their information about pictures true because if you change the information than its not really giving the right information.

Fashion Ethics

The changes they made on the models face was that they changed the size of her eyes, lips, neck, shoulders, eyebrows, cheekbones, the way of her hair, and the color tone of her face.
I think that it is not okay to change a person's appearance because it makes people think that they are not beautiful enough and all people are beautiful in the inside so it doesn't matter how you look.
I think that if you just send it on an email its different than if you post it in the news paper because more people will see it.
I think that if you just change your face by clearing it up than that's okay other than changing up the color tone and the way your face is shaped.
With photojournalism all you do is just take pictures of moments and not editing the way people look, but with photography all they concentrate on is making sure the people look perfect, and they just change up the color tone and much more. Both photojournalism and photography have a big difference when working with photos they both have their way of how photos should look and be edited.

Ethics Intro - Photo Manipulation

I thought that this photo was the most unethical because its not right just to copy a picture of someone without their permission and just paste it on the front cover of a magazine. I just think that if you want to have a picture mixed with the different ethnicity's than you should just get another picture.

I think this photo is the least unethical because its not hurting any ones feelings or anything. But all its doing is it just has the pyramids closer zoomed up to fit the cover. So I think this picture is not really that big of a deal that its fake.

University of Wisconsin-Madison

What was going on at The University of Wisconsin was that they had taken a picture of students at a football game. They were going to put that as their ad cover, but they noticed how they didn't have any African American ethnicity's. They then decided to cut out a picture of a African American male from another school and paste it on the cover blending in with the others.

I thought it was wrong for them to do that because they didn't even ask for permission of the young man to see if it was okay if they used his picture. Also how they didn't take the time to just get another picture of having more mixed ethnicity's.

Funny Photos

32 year old Billy Joe shows his good side for the camera while trying to keep his serious face. Billy has had different types of back sides his whole life most people would get confused if just glancing at his "face" so I'll let you decide which is which.

Repetition

Doe-EyedLisa Simpson appears on television screens on a new Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 after its inaugural passenger flight from Singapore to Sydney, Australia.

This picture is repetition because it leads your eye to keep following the lines. All the TVs have a same picture of them and they are the same color which leads your eyes.

The Blues Performers rehearse for the opening ceremony of the 6th National City Games in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province. The sporting meet will begin on Oct. 25 in Wuhan.

This picture is also an example of repetition because all the blue flags lead you eyes to the next one and the people also make your eye follow them.

Respect A man prays toward a column of Buddhist monks in Rangoon, Burma. The monks have been marching through the streets of the city, calling for the overthrow of the country's ruling junta.

This picture is showing repetition as well because the long line of monks makes you eyes follow the long line seeing where and when it would end.

I thought that the photos and music made the page interesting it made me feel how the real life was for the people living there. It also let me learn alot about what one family went through and how they lost a family memeber.

Sugar Hill

She didn't only put good pictures of how to feel the real lifestyle in Sugar Hill but she put the music that one lady sung. This makes you get a visual image of how shes feeling and what kind of things they are going through.

The music on the slide show made you feel how their life style was because it makes you feel how what kind of music they listen to. The music goes good with the slide show because it makes it more have a feeling on how Sugar Hill really is.

First Real Photojournalism Assignment

Challenges that I faced with my encounter was that when I first walked in everyone started getting off subject and concentrating on the camera. But then after I was there for a while they started not paying that much attention to me and just started doing their work. I was able to take a lot of good pictures of them doing their work and was able to capture real moments. There was a few problems because some of them would try to pose and get a picture of them smiling but what I did was I just put the camera down and got another picture of someone else showing emotion.

I was most concentrated of getting the focus right because at times I would try and get a picture far away and the people in front of me would be blurry so I had to focus the camera right so that way it would not be blurry. I also was thinking about a lot about my composition and the way I can position myself to show simplicity. By doing this I was trying to get close to the action so I can feel the emotion like when the teacher was speaking i was trying to get her hand motion and how she was showing the students information I was trying not to get anything to distracting and I was trying to fill the frame.

I was trying to use lines when I shot because in the room i was in the students were sitting in horizontal rows so i was trying to get the picture taken at the end of the row and get all the students working. Also the teacher was showing a film and what I was trying to do was get the students emotion towards the movie and by doing this I had to make sure i got the rows where they were sitting at.

Focal Length of Lens= 70-200mm

Shutter Speed= 1/640

What is the effect of shooting at this shutter speed? It helps make the picture not blurry and keep the image clear.

Aperture= f/2.8

What is the effect (Depth of field) of shooting at this aperture? He was shooting at all small depth of field because the main part of the image is the player #81 and the rest is not that noticeable

Position= I think that the photographer was standing in the left corner of the endzone to be able to take this picture.

Avoiding Mergers

This is an example of avoiding mergers because the balloons are getting cut off from the picture and also with the little girls face on the right side the little girls face is cut off.

Framing

This is a good example of framing because the window makes the image look as if in a frame.

Balance

I think this is a good example of balance because all the jets are lined together and each has the same number of jets on each side so it makes the image look balanced.

Lines

This picture is an example of lines because the most noticable thing in this picture is the dark red lines and so it grabes the viewers attention.

The Rule of Thirds

This image is an example of the rule of thirds because if you look at the picture the main image starts at the left. It's a good picture position because it shows how many people are waiting in line to volunteer. So this picture is a good example of the rule of thirds.

Simplicity

This picture is an example of simplicity because all that fills the frame is the world trade centers. The center of interest is the buildings, and there is nothing in the picture that will steal the viewers interest from not looking at the buildings and explosion.

William Eggleston

What i like about this picture is how it has the city in the background and it makes the city look empty with just that one car driving.

Ansel Adams

I like this picture because i like how you can see the creek and all the trees that surround it.

It makes it feel like a relaxing place to be at.

W. Eugene Smith

I like this picture because its like unexpected and its like as if the explosion just happened without warning and it just builds up the intensity and feeling of how the soldiers are feelings.

Negative Images

Whats wrong with my images is that on some of them there are water spots which make the picture look dirty and also on some of the pictures there are peoples arms or bodies that cover the others facial expression.
My best two favorite images is image number 6 because I got a candid picture where they are both laughing and showing a perfect emotion. I also like image number 5 because it had a good expression of them when they where going down. I like it because I was able to take the picture right when they didn't expect it and they were concentrated and also laughing having fun.

Fill the Frame

I think this picture fills the frame alot because there is not open space. Its filled with magazines, picutres, food, and other material. I like how it also looks really clear except for the male walking by.

Action and Emotion

I think this picture has alot of action and emotion because you cant tell if he is going to catch the ball or drop it so it just builds up the intensity. It also looks as if they are playing really hard and both teams are equally matched. I also like how the ball is in mid air, it just makes you want to find out if they catch the ball or not.

Contest Winner

I really think this picture is inspiring to me because it looks as if the girls had won a big game and one of the players friends was there congratulating her. The player looks like shes crying with excitment and you can just feel the emotion both girls are feelings. I also like this because it was a candid picture and everyone was showing feeling.

The Camera

A pinhole camera and an SLR camera are different because you have to have a certain kind of paper inside of the cylinder tube and when you open a flap you have to have it open for a certain amount of time. With a SLR camera all you have to do is just press the button and dont have to worry about having the lense open to long or anything.
They are both the same because they both provide pictures.

I really like this picture because I like how they have the color theme. It also makes me think of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre which is a movie that I really enjoy. I also like the background and how the trees are dark and the outside of it is like a light blue which it matches the car and I think that is interesting.

I dont really like this picture because the girls face is to blury and I think it would of looked better if it would have showed all of her face. I also think that they should of got less of the background and more of the girl. What I kind of like about this picture is how the blur behind her looks like a ghost or spirit and that looks cool.

First Critique

I think this is the best photo because it follows all of the criteria. Like shes not ready and its unexpected which makes the moment more real. I also like how she fits the frame nothing is distracting in the picture and all you focus on is her.

I think this is the worst photo because she is not in the frame. There are alot of other things that are distracting. I think that her emotion and everything is good but I think they need to turn the camera on her more.
